Mrs Anthea Sperlinger is a chartered clinical psychologist and a Clinical & Academic Tutor at Salomons. Her first degree in Psychology was from Queens' University, Belfast in 1968 and she qualified with a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Birmingham in 1971. Since then, she has worked for both Social Services and Health Services and with a range of different client groups but has always had a particular interest in working with people with learning disabilities and has worked exclusively with this client group for the past 20 years. She is interested in the use of a broad range of psychotherapeutic approaches with people with learning disabilities and has had a particular interest in training for direct care staff. She has published in the areas of hospital closure & resettlement; direct care staff training; expression of emotion; and co-edited a textbook for health care professionals on key issues in services for people with learning disabilities.
