Salomons’ programmes awarded highest level QAA
The Clinical Psychology Doctorate, Statement of Equivalence and Primary Care Certificate in Mental Health Programmes were all subject to a QAA visit in February/March. The QAA panel has approved the programmes with flying colours in that the overall judgement was one of ‘Confidence’, the highest award and each of the three areas scored ‘Commendable’ which is again the highest level award.
“The team put a great deal of work into this visit and are extremely pleased and proud of the outcome” said Professor Tony Lavender, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Dean of Salomons). “As with all these things, we are moving on to another round of quality assurance in June – this time with a visit from the British Psychological Society. We are hoping this will be just as successful.”

BPS fully approves Clinical Psychology Programme for another Five
Years
As you know, following the highly favourable report of the Quality Assurance Agency, the
prequalification clinical psychology programme quickly went into BPS accreditation, and we were delighted
with the outcome, giving us accreditation for a further five years and accompanied
by a number of commendations. The accreditation team found the staff team‘thoughtful’, ‘cohesive, creative and highly committed’ and was impressed by the programme’s‘distinctive ethos and vision’. It praised the creativity of the research element
and recent changes made in how we support trainees’ development of research skills. It
felt the course is underpinned by clear educational models and that we have taken a national
lead on important issues in clinical psychology training. Our support of trainees,
and the support for them from administrative and library staff was seen as excellent, as
was our clear planning of teaching over the three years. We were praised for our high
quality teaching on the three core models of psychological theory. Finally the particular
innovation of the Trust Training Co-ordinator roles received recognition and praise.
We would like to thank all our staff and associates within Salomons and in the region, for
their contribution to making 2006 such a successful year for us.
